Catheter for continent urostomy
Our catheter is developed for patients with a continent urostomy such as Kock Pouch, (K-Pouch) or Indiana Pouch. With the Medena straight continent urostomy catheter you empty your Kock Pouch or Indiana Pouch in a safe and effective way 4-6 times per day. The Medena catheter for continent urostomy was originally developed by the company AstraTech together with surgeons and stomanurses at Sahlgrenska University Hospital in Gothenburg, Sweden at the point of time when surgeon and professor Nils G Kock developed the surgical procedure later known as Kock Pouch. The Swedish company YourRad took over the manufacturing of the Medena urostomy catheters in 2022 to ensure that people across the world living with a Kock Pouch or Indiana Pouch would get continued access to the products.
Catheters for K-pouch & Indiana pouch urinary diversion
The catheter is developed together with healthcare professionals to facilitate a safe and effective insertion and emptying of your continent urostomy. (Kock Pouch) The catheter is 30 cm long, 0,8 cm in outer diameter and made of medical grade polyvinyl chloride (PVC) with phthalate-free plasticizer by TEHTM. The top of the Medena catheter is rounded and has a hole to be gentle to your urostoma when you insert the catheter into your reservoir and to release gases and reduce the pressure in your Kock Pouch when emptying. The distance and size of the two holes on the catheter are tested together with stoma nurses to avoid bending of the catheter when you insert the catheter through the nipple in your continent urostomy. You should only use the product after you have been trained in its use by your ostomy nurse.
